Montenegro is a Southeastern European country located on the Balkan Peninsula, bordered by Croatia to the west, Bosnia and Herzegovina to the northwest, Serbia to the north, Kosovo to the east, and the Adriatic Sea to the south. Its capital and largest city is Podgorica, while Cetinje serves as the historical capital. Montenegro is known for its mountainous terrain, which includes the Durmitor National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its stunning coastal beaches along the Adriatic. The country has a diverse economy, with significant contributions from tourism, mining, energy, and agriculture. Montenegro declared independence from Serbia in 2006 and has since worked toward integration into the European Union (EU) and NATO. It is a parliamentary republic and a member of the United Nations and the Council of Europe.
